For the character in the Battle Planet series, see Shun Kazami (Battle Planet).
Speed and stealth is the way of the ninja.

Shun Kazami (風見 駿 (シュン), Kazami Shun?) is one of the main protagonists of the anime series Bakugan Battle Brawlers and one of the few original Battle Brawlers besides Marucho Marukura who remains a main character throughout its sequels, 'Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia , Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders, and Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge.

He is one of the inventors of Bakugan brawling, and was originally the best brawler worldwide before Masquerade and his minions took over the rankings and he dropped to sixth place. Due to various personal circumstances with his grandfather, he temporarily resigned from brawling until he was convinced to join the Battle Brawlers as their Ventus brawler.

Shun makes appearances in most of the Battle Brawlers video game instalments, appearing in Bakugan Battle Brawlers, Bakugan: Defenders of the Core, Bakugan: Rise of the Resistance, and Bakugan Dimensions.

Appearance

Shun's outfit in Bakugan Battle Brawlers was a blue shirt, covered with a thin purple shirt with a triangular-backed ending. He had black pants with a brown zipper like designs on around them. His black hair consists of two layers. The first layer of hair is the front all one his forehead, and his second layer is the straight hair tied up with a ponytail. His light brown eyes are in an upset mood.

In Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia, Shun's outfit consists of a fully black sweater-like turtleneck, fingerless gloves that reach to his elbows, black Vestal jeans that he stole along with the rest of the outfit from when he infiltrated the Vestals after he saved Ingram. He has black rubber boots that almost goes to his knees. He later wears a long green vest up to his knees with a belt on the side when its open. When he is on Earth he wears black pants with a black shirt with green markings. Shun's hair is almost the same only the difference is that he cut off his ponytail and his hair is now up to his neck.

In Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders, he wears a green ninja style shirt with purple and gold trimming, black pants, black wrist bands and purple and green boots.

In Arc 1 of Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge, Shun sports a light green shirt under a white shirt with dark green trimming, a dark green choker, tan colored pants and light brown boots. His hair is starting to grow more.

In Arc 2, he wears a black jacket and a green shirt with white pants along with black shoes.

Personality

Shun is one of the calmest Brawlers in the series. He rarely gets flustered or annoyed, and even when he is annoyed, he maintains a cool voice (even though he voices his displeasure). However he can resort to being truly angry if he feels that someone has wronged him. This is shown in his final battle with Sellon as he yells at her for thinking they could be similar. Shun is a lone wolf and always focuses on battles. However, his stamina does have its limits, as shown by how he tires after a large amount of constant battling. He has a distaste for BakuNano, as he sees them as dangerous for inexperienced Brawlers to have but gradually uses his own when needed. Shun has good instincts, as he is able to discern a person's actions by their personality as was found when he saw Ren and Jake were lying.

Shun in Bakugan Battle Brawlers

Shun Kazami lives in the province and is a Ventus attributed brawler. He is also an aspiring ninja, receiving training from his grandfather. He is a loner, yet is still willing to help his friends at all costs. Together with Dan Kuso, his best friend and childhood friend, he invented the gameplay for Bakugan. He had been the first ranked battler until Masquerade and his minions dominated the rankings and because his grandfather didn't let him play, ending up in 6th place. In his first appearance in BAKUGAN THE BATTLE BEGINS, Shun thinks that battling weak players is easy and that he wants a real challenge. One night, Marucho Marukura and Runo Misaki try to convince Shun to join the brawlers, but he defeats both of them in battle. Masquerade decides to recruit Shun to his side although during a battle with Dan he leaves and helps Dan beat him then he beats Dan in a one on one battle. After joining the brawlers he watches Micheal's video before he left for Vestroia and then travels with them to Bakugan Valley and faces Billy Gilbert and Komba alongside Julie Makimoto eventually winning. After defeating Komba O'Charlie in a rematch, he ends up fifth. Shun is currently in 3rd place.

The events of Shun's mother and him not playing Bakugan is explained differently between the Japanese and English Dub.

His mother Shiori Kazami was passing away and Shun tried to stall time when battling Dan. After the battle, Shun made it in time to see his mother only to realize later on that she died. Shun discovered a Bakugan in her as it was a gift his mother wanted to give him on his birthday. The loss of his mother was the reason why Shun didn't play the game anymore. It was until Dan and remembering to protect the Bakugan and the game they created from Masquerade led Shun into playing the game again (Japanese Dub).

His mother was really sick and it was when she slipped into a coma that Shun gave up on Bakugan, mainly because his grandfather stated that since he has to take custody of Shun until his mother gets better, he can't play the game anymore and has to concentrate on his training. His grandfather lets him brawl again (English Dub).

Shun once left the brawlers when Dan says they don't need him. Alice tries to persuade him to come back and after brawling Komba, Dan appears and asks for forgiveness to which Shun accepts. This is when he realizes he needs his friends the most. After defeating Komba, Shun takes him as an apprentice to Bakugan and ninja training, but only because Komba was literally on his knees begging to be one. Later he goes with the group to meet Joe Brown.

When everyone was thinking about who was the spy, Shun was the other candidate for the spy alongside Alice. Julie mistook his grandfather for Hal-G, but with a little help from Skyress, the problem was solved. Dan blamed him for not telling them that he came in town, but Alice immediately defended Shun, saying that it's not his fault and that there's no need for him to apologize. Shun later got a message from Komba about losing Harpus, and vowed to make Masquerade pay.

After Dan went to the Doom Dimension by losing to him, Shun was challenged by Masquerade and decided to go to the Doom Dimension himself with Marucho, Runo, and Julie by letting masquerade beat him

When he was being tested in the Doom Dimension by the Ventus Lord, Shun had to brawl with the child form of his mother. He almost gave into losing and staying there forever, but Skyress was able to make him realize that he has friends who need him and that he needs them. This caused Skyress to evolve into Storm Skyress. When Dan and Drago were battling to get Drago to evolve, Shun and Storm Skyress were the Brawlers Dan battled last. He was defeated after a close battle and Drago evolved.

He was very shocked when he found out that Alice was Masquerade after Masquerade lost to Dan, but instead of protecting her, he made a comment about how "smart" Masquerade was, which caused Alice to cry and flee back to Russia. It is believed that he did this because he felt angered about the fact that she was Masquerade. When he was in Vestroia he fought Aquos-Ventus hybrids Tayghen and Hairadee alongside Marucho while Dan, Runo, and Julie helped out a bit. He originally just fought Hairadee, but then they teamed up when they realized that they were both able to use both Aquos and Ventus. He and Marucho then defeated them by using a Diagonal Relationship with Ventus and Haos with Angelo and Skyress, and then a Pyrus and Darkus with Preyas and Diablo, defeating them. After Alice as Masquerade saved Dan and Drago from Centorrior and Druman he regained his "friendship" with her and head of to Vestroia to stop Naga. Shun and the rest of the Bralwers don't find Naga there and wonder where he might be. Joe later contacts them and tells them Naga is in Earth. With no time to lose Shun and the rest of the Bralwers head back home to stop Naga's plans.

Shun and Komba later fight Hairadee in Wardington tower. The two easily match Hairadee blow for blow until he unleashes an ability to trap Skyress. The brawlers are quickly outclassed and are thrown into the castle and later Hairadee tried to attack Shun but Komba threw bombs at him. Shun eventually manages to free Skyress with a combination of his ninja skills and is saved by Julio when he shows up and uses Tentaclear's abilities. The brawlers and their Bakugan manage to finally destroy Hairadee with all of their powers combined.

Shun and Skyress helped Alice, Joe and Wavern by distracting Naga so that they can give them more time, but they were easily defeated by the Silent Core. He, Runo, Marucho, Julie and Alice later help Dan and Drago to defeat and destroy Naga with their Bakugan's help. After the battle finished, he released Storm Skyress and all other of his Bakugan.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia

Shun in Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia

Shun, now a teenager, is first mentioned when Dan complains about not being able to reach him. He makes a cameo debut after Marucho passes out from his battle against Mylene Farrow. We hear Mylene tell him that she doesn't want to keep losing to him and asks him if he wants to join the Vexos. When he doesn't reply, she takes that as a no, and leaves. Shun then leaves, leaving Mira to wonder if he was her brother Keith.

Later, Shun reappears to aid Dan Kuso in his battle against Spectra Phantom and Gus Grav using his Ingram to beat Premo Vulcan. He Ingram and his bakugan trap Hylash also mange to take down Spectra's Hyper Dragonoid while Drago beats Viper Helios. After they beat the two Vexos, he tells the Brawlers how he was in the mountains, practicing his ninja skills when a portal suddenly opened, sending him to New Vestroia. Soon he met Ingram when the Bakugan were being sucked up by the Vexos and he saves him by grabbing onto his ball as he was being teleported. Ingram told him about the Vexos and he agreed to help save the Bakugan. When he noticed Dan's battle, Shun activates his Gauntlet and uses Ingram and Hylash to fly over to where Dan is and help defeat Gus and Spectra. Shun then tells the group the story of how he arrived in New Vestroia and began fighting to free the Bakugan. Once Baron reveals that they've reached Alpha City, Shun tells them, that he was heading there to rescue Skyress, thinking she might be there. He becomes an official member of the Resistance. Shun leads the team to Alpha city where they explore the city and find out about Altair during Mira's Brawl with Lync.

In Alpha City, Shun and Ace were forced to team up in a tournament while the others shut down the Dimension Controller. At first, they have trouble working together, but after getting taunted by their opponents The Dark Angels, they put their differences aside and advance to the finals against Lync Volan and Volt Luster. In order to stall for time, they had to toy with them first. It eventually remains difficult to stay in the battle, but they pull through and defeat the two and there Bakugan Altair and Mega Brontes. Afterwords the Bakugan thank the Resistance for freeing them.

Later on Dan tells Shun that Mira reminds him of Runo. He then joins the team in teasing Dan about his relationship with her. When Runo arrives on New Vestroia, Dan, Mira, and Baron Leltoy accompany her back to Earth after Spectra Phantom, Gus Grav, and Lync Volan follow her leaving him, Ace, and Marucho stuck on New Vestroia.

When Ace and Marucho fall into a Vexos trap, Shun was smart enough to not fall for it because he knew that Shadow Prove's impressions of Dan Kuso and Mira Fermin were fake since he heard Dan say he was scared, something he would never do. However, even though he didn't fall for it, the trap still worked since all three of them were separated. Shun decided he would go to Beta City alone to destroy the Dimension Controller, but Ingram assured him that he is never alone as Ingram would always be by his side like a shadow. Shun eventually made it to Beta City, but Shadow Prove stops him and forces him into a battle. Shadow used Alpha Hydranoid in the battle which surprised both Shun and Ingram. As the battle went on they tried to convince Hydranoid to snap out of it, which was later revealed to be a mechanical version of Alpha Hydranoid known as Mechanical Darkus Hades created by Professor Clay. Shadow had the upper hand when Shun was down to his last Ability Card Double Fangs Jade Wind Shot, but Shun and Ingram almost pulled off a win until Shadow brought out his Mechanical Bakugan Trap Darkus Fortress. After that, Shun loses and later on revealed to be in pods with Ace and Marucho. While they were captured, they still had their Bakugan at the capture unit pod.

Later, Shun, Ace, and Marucho manage to get out with Mira and Spectra's help. The three manage to escape Beta City, but are surprised when Dan and Baron told them that Mira betrayed them and joined the Vexos. The group later arrives at Gamma city where they learn it connects to the vest palace. Once they get inside Gamma City, Shun and Marucho face Mylene and Shadow in a rematch and manage to win. Mira later joins the team again. When Prince Hydron's Dimension Controller activates, Shun rescues Mira and Marucho, landing on top of an elevator leading to Prince Hydron's Palace. He, Mira and Marucho then confront Hydron and witness Mylene take him away. He convinces Marucho not to go after them and they begin trying to free their Bakugan. They managed to crack the code to free the Six Warrior Bakugan, thanks to Elfin, who accidentally pressed the correct keys. Shun was very happy to be reunited with Skyress and shortly met up with Dan, Ace and Baron.

Shun, Dan, and Marucho go back to Earth along with everyone except Skyress. Skyress said that Shun didn't need her anymore and left her successor as Ingram to become Shun's new and permanent guardian. Ingram then evolves into Ventus Master Ingram after the Six Ancient Warriors gave their Attribute Energies to Drago and the other Resistance Bakugan.

Shun goes to New Vestroia with Master Ingram, where he meets up with Skyress again. After she told them about the strange device that regressed all Bakugan to ball form Shun tried to destroy it, but it was protected by a force field. He is then confronted by Lync who revealed it was the BT System. Shun nearly lost due to his inability to control Master Ingram's powers, but Storm Skyress stepped in for Ingram, but almost ended up sacrificing herself in the process. Ingram finally regained his confidence and was able to unlock Shadow Wing to defeat Lync and Aluze. After the battle Shun got very upset when Skyress left saying she will always be watching over him. Later, Shun told Dan and the others what happened when he last visited New Vestroia to investigate. When Marucho and Preyas sneak out to find Elfin, he is with Dan, Ace and Baron sleeping through a romantic movie that Runo, Mira and Julie are watching.

Shun somehow senses that Volt is on Earth and sneaks out of Marucho's house to face him. During the battle it looked a little grim for Shun until Baron shows up and is able to help him face Volt and his mechanical Bakugan Boriates. Baron's little sister Maron unfortunately gets caught in the crossfire, but is saved by Shun. They win, keeping the Ventus energy safe. Strangely, Volt and Shun acted as though neither had met before, despite battling on opposite sides in the Alpha City tournament. This may be because they both treated the tournament as a one-off thing and didn't bother remembering each other in detail. Later Spectra and Gus are able to bring them to the Vexos Motherpalace. Unfortunately, in a rematch against Volt and Mylene in a tag battle with Baron, he loses due to the Vexos' special new battle arena that gave Mechanical Bakugan a power boost. Because of that, the Ventus energy is taken.

When the BT System was fully operational, Shun helped all the Bakugan get onto the Vestal Destroyer. During the evacuation Shun openly expressed his distrust of Spectra, saying he's only helping because he wants to create the Ultimate Bakugan and that can't happen if the BT System works. After the BT System is destroyed, Shun and the others return to earth. When the phantom data appears in Bakugan Interspace, Shun and the others entered the virtual world and watched Baron battle against a clone of Haos Aranaut.

He and the rest of the brawlers then watched Dan and Spectra's final rematch where Spectra joins the Resistance afterword's. Later he hears about the Alternative thanks to Lync leaving evidence behind.

When the Alternative was complete, in episode 50-52 Dan and the other brawlers, including Shun, battled it. Shun used all his Bakugan: Master Ingram, Shadow Wing, and Hylash. When Keith and Helios were able to blow open a hole in the Alternative, Dan, Shun, Ace, and Baron went inside to destroy it from the inside, as Shun remembered the blueprints for it. Professor Clay then trapped the four of them in a virtual world similar to Bakugan Interspace where they battled four unknown Bakugan. They managed to win and were able to destroy the Alternative. They later part ways with Mira and the other Vestals of the Resistance and head back to Earth.

In the Japanese Ending of episode 52, he is seen with Alice, Hydranoid and Ingram as they watch Marucho repairing Bakugan Interspace. At the end of New Vestroia, Hawktor becomes his new Guardian Bakugan, with no word as to Ingram's fate.

Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders

Shun in Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders

Shun is seen competing in a battle in Bakugan Interspace with the synthetic Ventus Hawktor as his partner. He battles Shuji in arena F-12. He is ranked the second best brawler in Bakugan Interspace, right between Dan and Marucho. He is then seen watching Dan and Ren battle which ends with a huge explosion. Later Ren tells the team that he is a Gundalian from the planet Gundalia. Shun still seems to distrust Ren, much in the same way as Ace distrusted Keith when he first joined the Brawlers. After Dan and Marucho beat Sid Arkale and Lena Isis, he wonders if Ren is being honest.

When Fabia Sheen appears and battles Dan, Shun is the first to suspect that Ren's story about the Neathians attacking Gundalia is false. After Dan defeats Fabia and she leaves, Shun finds her and asks for her side of the story. After learning from Fabia what was really going on, he and Fabia work together to expose Ren for lying about the Gundalian-Neathian War, saying that the Neathians invaded Gundalia when it was really the other way around. Ren flees, which Shun says only proves their theory correct. Marucho, still trusting Ren, yells at him and runs after Ren.

After Marucho had run off, he and the rest of the Brawlers watch Marucho brawl Ren, he then like the others see Ren's true Gundalian Form.

After Marucho and Ren 's battle, he, Marucho and Jake get the real versions of their Bakugan and then are challenged to a brawl against Sid Arkale, Mason Brown, Taylor and Casey. Shun and Dan brawl Mason and Taylor and beat them both clearing Taylor's brainwash, but then like the other brawlers are forced out of Bakugan Interspace when Ren hacks into the systems and now BI is under his control.

While trying to get back into BI, he mentions to Jake that he was being a bit rough, and now no one in BI could leave, which he seemed very worried about until Drago and Coredem along with Jake and Dan come up with a way to spy then get them out.

While smuggling kids out of Bakugan Interspace, Shun comes across Linus and Neo Ziperator, who he believes are Gundalians, but realizes are Neathians when Ren and Jesse show up and challenge them to a battle. Linus had been carrying something very important and asked Shun to escort him to Fabia. Shun remarks that any friend of Fabia's is a friend of his and the two battle against Ren and Jesse together. Shun and Linus eventually lost the battle and Neo was taken by Jesse. Neo however gives the element to Drago causing him to evolve into Lumino Dragonoid.

After hearing how things are getting worse on Neathia, Shun and the others decide to head to there to help fight after Dan beats Zenet. Fabia takes them to the Sacred Orb and reveals that it is the true object of Barodius' desire. Soon after, they receive a report that the Gundalians are attacking. He and Dan take out Gundalian Bakugan. He ends up facing Airzel and Strikeflier and suddenly got overpowered before the orb sent Airzel away. Later, he is made a Castle Knight by Captain Elright and was loaned the Ventus Castle Knight uniform.

Later, Shun accompanies Dan and Fabia to the second shield generator while Marucho and Jake distract Airzel and Mason. He, Dan and Fabia are making their way through the jungle when Stoica and Jesse confront them. Dan and Fabia remain behind to deal with Stoica and Jesse while Shun continues ahead. Later, it is revealed that Dan and Shun switched their Bakugan so Shun, being the fastest member of the team, could continue with Drago and the Element to power the second shield.

When Shun and Drago reach the shield generator, Shun successfully sneaks into the building while disabling the Gundalian guards. However, before he can reactivate the shield, Kazarina and Lena arrive and ambush them and a battle ensues. Shun takes out Lena with next to no effort, but begins struggling with Kazarina causing him to lose to her in round 1. Dan and Hawktor arrive in time and they switch back their Bakugan. Dan stays behind to deal with Kazarina and beat her while Shun enters the building to reactivate the shield. Later he is shown helping the Castle knights clean up.

Later, he is shown watching Fabia tell Serena about how Nurzak just left the battle when the orb got angry. The Brawlers decide to use the orb to turn the other Twelve Orders against Barodius. Dan decides to use that plan to divide and conquer. During the Gundalian's next invasion attempt, Shun battles Zenet Surrow and Gill. This battle marks the first time Shun uses his Battle Gear, making him the only main character to take the longest to use his Battle Gear. He easily overpowers Zenet, but struggles against Gill. Fortunately, Dan arrives in time and the Gundalians are defeated. Later Nurzak tells Neathia that he wants to meet for a treaty, however he is beaten by Barodius before the bralwers could speak with him. Later he beats several brainwashed kids with the rest of the Brawlers and Castle Knights. The next day he, Dan and Jake beat several Gundalian Bakugan Gill sends at them. The invasion continues and Shun must hold off Airzel and Strikeflier. Airzel begins overwhelming them, but Fabia steps in to help out. Kazarina ends up defeating Fabia and Airzel launches a sneak attack and defeats Shun. The following night he watches Ren become a Castle Knight after he lost to Fabia. He and Fabia later investigate Gundalian activity and see Kazarina take Jake away.

After Jake is taken by Kazarina, he witnesses Jake return to Neathia, but is suspicious of whether or not that is the real Jake. He tests Jake to see if he remembers distracting the Gundalians to help Dan and Shun restart the second shield, and he in fact remembers. Later, he helps Dan defeat the brainwashed Jake, utilizing Swayther. Jake however retreats telling Shun and Dan he is not their friend.

With the help of Dragonoid Colossus, he, Marucho, and Dan break in to the Gundalian castle to rescue Jake, while Fabia, Ren, Mason and Nurzak rescue the rest of Ren's team, but he and Marucho get separated from Dan. The two of them face off against Gill and Airzel. Although Shun manages to defeat Airzel, Gill still defeats the two of them. Shun throws a smoke ball and the two of them escape.

They are later seen disguised as Gundalian guards infiltrating the palace. Though after that they soon fought and they escaped with everyone including Jake (not hypnotized anymore). Once they returned to Neathia, Shun, the Bralwers, the Gundalian Agents (except Sid) and Nurzak fought to hold off the Gundalian forces as well as Barodius, Stoica and Airzel. Though the other Twelve Orders fell, Shun was easily beaten, along with all the other Brawlers, and were all knocked out by Phantom Dharak.

After regaining consciousness with the other Brawlers, Shun witnesses Linehalt using his forbidden powers to restore the war torn Neathia. After Dan and Barodius battle, Shun and the Castle Knights arrive in time to see Dharak and Barodius take the Sacred Orb by force, but are ultimately destroyed by its power, and Drago's evolution. Fabia thanks the brawlers for all their help and they are sent home, leaving behind their Neathian Bakugan partners. Once back on Earth, they reunite with Julie and Dan's mom.

Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge

Arc 1

Shun epi10-1

Shun in Arc 1 of Mechtanium Surge

Shun reappears in Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge with Ventus Taylean as his new partner. Shun is now the fourth strongest Brawler in Bakugan Interspace, behind Dan, Anubias, and Sellon, respectively. After Dan beats Ben with new powers, he starts to get suspicious of what Dan and Drago are doing. Later, he is seen commenting on whether Drago and Zenthon are connected due to the timing.

He figures out that Dan is hiding something, but Dan keeps on making excuses. Later, during Dan's battle with Anubias, Shun and Marucho realize that Dan is holding Drago's power back and that is what he has been hiding, but they do not know why. In the preview, he also comments that things have been strange since they returned from Neathia and that if they do not figure out what to do with Dan and Drago's problems; the Brawlers could be destroyed for good. Later he alongside Marucho and Dan battled Zenthon briefly before he disappears. Shun and Dan later argue with Dan telling Shun to let him be.

He then battles alongside Dan against Sellon and Chris which they win thanks to Sellon throwing the match. He is later asked by Sellon to join Team Sellon, a proposition which he refuses.

Shun and Dan begin arguing about whether Dan and Drago should take a break from brawling, during which Shun makes clear that he no longer trusts Dan. Later, he is greeted by Sellon about her offer and about how to handle Dan's problems with "tough love". He and Marucho battle against the Tri-Twisters and are losing due to their underhanded tactics until Sellon and Anubias interfere.

Shun declares that he's tired of waiting for Dan and leaves, telling Taylean that it's time to give Dan the tough love that Sellon had suggested earlier. After Dan leaves due to losing his fans, Shun doesn't care. During this time, Shun stays out of Interspace, but Marucho finds him and tells him about the BakuNano. They return to Interspace, where Shun interrogates Dylan on the sudden appearance of the BakuNano, but learns that they appeared out of nowhere one day and was open to the public. Sellon later confronts Shun and tells him that the standards of battling have fallen and that someone like Shun could restore the honor in battling. She even suggests that with Dan's disappearance, Shun take up position of leader of the Brawlers. Shun suddenly leaves when he discovers Marucho is battling against the Bash Brothers and loses terribly because of their BakuNano. Shun intervenes and easily defeats them without using BakuNano himself. He speaks out to the crowd and announces that as the new leader of the Brawlers he will not stand for the new style of dangerous brawling accidentally started by Dan and Drago. The crowd quickly responds positively to Shun's declaration, while Sellon reveals that Shun has fallen for her trap.

He easily began to dominate the battlefield, flawlessly taking down opponent after opponent. Marucho is impressed, but tells Shun that he should take a break; however, Shun brushes this off and says that if Marucho really wants to help, he'll find Shun another opponent. Ironically, Shun had told Dan that he should take a break, and Dan refused to listen, something that Shun is now emulating. Shun declares that as the new leader of the Brawlers, it's his job to get the Brawlers back on top.

In Chaos Control, Shun and Marucho talk about Dan. Shun makes it clear he does not care if Dan is in trouble.

In A Royale Pain, it is clear that Shun is pushing himself too hard with endless battle after battle in attempt to prove something as well as get the Brawlers back on top. He even joins a Battle Royale against Marucho's advice and battles against Robin and Soon which ends up having no outcome. Paige and Rafe come to help him when Taylean creates Silent Strike, who wipes out the competition, giving Shun the win. After the match, Paige and Rafe call the brawlers weak and tell them what Mechtogan really are, angering Shun, who then leaves.

In Back In Sync, Shun overhears Paige and Rafe's conversation about how the Brawlers used to be and how Shun didn't want anything to do with them, as they want to help the Brawlers. He later watches Marucho's battle against Jack Punt. Taylean then asked whether they should go congratulate Marucho on his victory, to which Shun states they have their own battles to worry about.

In Mind Search, he competes in the Capture the Flag challenge. He attracts lots of battlers, including Chris and Soon, but he defeats them all. According to Marucho, he was counting on Shun to draw the majority of the battlers which would allow his plan with Rafe and Paige to work. When Shun sees that Marucho's plan was a complete success, he begins to wonder if he was wrong about his solution to save Bakugan Interspace by battling.

In Re-connection, he battles an unknown Brawler, Anubias and Marucho in a championship match. He wins both battles and with some convincing from Marucho, he sees the error in his ways and turns back to his old self, promising to work together from now on. During the battle, Shun suggested that he didn't want to be the leader in the first place when he said, "When Dan left us, someone had to step up and take over. Do you think I really wanted his job?"

In Triple Threat, Shun congratulates Paige and Rafe for winning their battle and later battles Anubias and Robin with Marucho. He manages to defeat Robin, but his battle is interrupted by the Chaos Bakugan invading Bakugan Interspace.

During the Chaos Bakugan invasion of Interspace, Shun and the others tried to stop the invading force by deleting them from reality. He also received the BakuNano Hammermor from Rafe, although he didn't want it at first. When Anubias and Sellon had there Bakugan battle them and Spectra, he protected Team Anubias with Taylean when Dan and Drago lose control over Zenthon. After Drago was defeated by Team Anubias and Team Sellon's Bakugan, Marucho moved everyone out of Sector B of Bakugan interspace, and then proceeded to delete it. He is upset by Dan's return, as he acted arrogant and tried to reclaim his position as leader. Taylean told Shun not to lose focus of what he has to do. Shun agreed with the rest of the Brawlers to help Paige to save her home world from Mag Mel, who had begun to attack it.

Shun and the brawlers met up with Ren in Gundalia, and discussed a battle plan to counter Mag Mel's forces. They followed Marucho's plan, but Mag Mel uses his link with Dan to counter the plan, forcing the brawlers into a battle. When Mag Mel's Bakugan proves too much for the brawlers to handle, the Castle Knights arrive, forcing Mag Mel to retreat. Shun helps Dan off the battlefield after he and Drago were beaten by Mag Mel.

In Battle Lines, he stops Dan from going to Mag Mel on his own. Later he and Dan battle Anubias and Sellon. Shun is defeated, but Dan manages to defeat them with help from Marucho who uses a Cannon.

In Unlocking the Gate, Shun battles Mag Mel Sellon and Anubias along with the other brawlers facing their Chaos Bakugan; however, their Mechtogan soon overwhelmed the Brawlers. Dan gave Shun and the other Brawlers a portion of his power and they summon their own Mechtogan. Taylean and Silent Strike work together to defeat the Mechtogan and the remaining Chaos Bakugan. Afterwards Shun and the others celebrate until they learn that Mag Mel and Razenoid are alive.

In True Colours, Shun and the brawlers return to Bakugan Interspace due to a distress call. Shun then battles Anubias and Sellon alongside Rafe, Paige, Marucho and Dan after she reveals that she works for Mag Mel. When she tries to get Dan's Key by distracting Shun, Shun uses an Ability Card so he and Taylean can protect Dan while he battles Anubias. Shun defeats all of Sellon's Bakugan forcing her to retreat. However, in his battle with Sellon and Anubias, he destroyed the last transport system, trapping those still in Bakugan Interspace.

In Dangerous Beauty, after Sellon is brought back by her former teammates Chris and Soon, Shun tells them not to trust Sellon, but they plead that she should stay with them. A Flash Ingram attacks and Shun defeats it after learning its weakness from Sellon. Against Shun's judgement the brawlers allow Sellon to stay, Shun would then watch Sellon until Chaos Bakugan started attacking another portion of Bakugan Interspace, so he summons Silent Strike to finish them off. He goes back and finds Sellon took Dan's key, so then he chases after her to retrieve the key from her and defeats her three Bakugan with his Kazami-style Ability Cards. Before he could stop Sellon from leaving, Team Sellon stops him, allowing Sellon to leave.

In Unfinished Business, he and Dan are seen fighting against some of the Chaos Bakugan. After they finish the fight, they split up to battle more of the Chaos Bakugan. Shun later comes back and sees Dan talking to Anubias on his BakuMeter. He then watches Dan's battle against Anubias and helps Noah understand what was going on in the battle. He later saw Anubias being absorbed by Mag Mel and see Dan's anguish, as he could do nothing for Anubias.

In Behind the Mask, Shun battled the Chaos Bakugan along with Paige, Rafe and Team Anubias while Marucho tried to find a way to contact the outside world, and Dan battled Mag Mel through their link. Shun used two Kazami Style Ability Cards and defeated the Chaos Bakugan with Team Anubias. Soon told him there is no point, to which he replied that there is no point if she keeps up such an attitude, causing Soon and Chris to realize that Shun could be their new leader. Soon and Chris later help Shun beat the Chaos Bakugan. Later, Shun was very shocked to hear from Dan that Barodius was really Mag Mel.

In Interspace Armageddon, Shun helps the brawlers distract the Chaos Bakugan so that the trapped brawlers can leave Interspace. He helps Soon and Chris when Mag Mel's Mechtogan appear as their power was useless against them. Shun would then call Silent Strike to aid him in battle. After Dan and Spectra team up to defeat most of the remaining Mechtogan he leaves Interspace with Paige and Rafe. He is shocked when he learns that Mag Mel found a way to get to earth as he sees a large sphere appear in the sky.

In Dark Moon, Shun is the second brawler to use the Battle Suit Blasterate, the first being Spectra. Shun summons Faser Titan and helped in the battle, and becomes the second brawler to reveal his Mechtogan Titan. He and Spectra then fight Mag Mel, but end up losing to him.

In The Final Takedown, Shun and Taylean continue to fight and ultimately defeat the Mechtogan Titans along with the Brawlers, Team Anubias Team Sellon and Gus. He awaits Dan and Drago after they defeat Mag Mel and take flight to Earth, and congratulates him for saving the Earth and the whole universe.

Arc 2

Shun in the second arc of Mechtanium Surge

In Evil Arrival, Shun is shown beating an unknown Brawler and then participates in the first season of the Neo Bakugan City Tournament along with Dan and Marucho, where he is matched up against Dan. In a short brawl, Shun loses the battle after Dan mimicked Shun's and Jaakor's battling style. He later took on a Mechtogan Destroyer with his new battling partner alongside Dan and Marucho, but was defeated along with Marucho. He watches as Dan defeats the Mechtogan with his Mechtogan Destroyer.

In Wiseman Cometh, Shun, Dan, and Marucho brawled against Wiseman and his Nonet Bakugan and did a good job in the battle. However, they were eventually defeated alongside the other Battle Brawlers. Dragonoid Destroyer was then summoned and launched Shun's Jaakor and Reptak, Dan's new temporary Bakugan, allowing them to defeat Mechtavius Destroyer.

In Mysterious Bond, Shun and the others wonder who Wiseman really was and later see Dan battle Wiseman.

In The Prodigal Bakugan, Shun is seen training with Jaakor. After their training, they decide to rest, where Shun overheard Jaakor's students talking with him, asking him to go back to New Vestroia to help protect the other Bakugan. Although Shun tells Jaakor it was okay for him to leave, Shun was upset to see him go, and splits a rock with a kick. Once he was confronted by Wiseman, Shun puts up a fight against Spatterix and Stronk by using ninja moves on them, but then they figure out his strategy and were able to overpower him. Jaakor returns to save Shun and he defeats the two Bakugan with Shun's coaching. The two Bakugan then fuse together to become Scorptak and overwhelm Jaakor, as his attacks were ineffective against it. Jaakor fuses with his students to become Magmafury and defeats the fused Bakugan.

In Combination Impossible, Shun discusses his battle with Wiseman to the other brawlers and Jaakor's ability to fuse with other Bakugan. When he and Dan ask Marucho to discuss coming up with a strategy against Wiseman later on, Marucho states he has other plans. Shun didn't like the idea since Wiseman has been targeting the brawlers individually and wanted to tag along with him but Marucho refuses.

In Enemy Allies, Shun and the other Brawlers are questioned by Julie who wants a scope on Wiseman, but they don't tell her anything. He is later seen battling with the brawlers against Wiseman, with Jaakor helping defeating Wiseman's Bakugan. When Wiseman summons their Mechtogan the brawlers are nearly beaten, but Shun has Jaakor fuse with Orbeum and Skytruss to create Magmafury. Even with their combined power they were easily defeated, it is only when Runo sends in the battle suits is when Shun was able to create an opening for the brawlers to attack Mechtavius Destroyer and defeat Wiseman.

In Battle for Bakugan Land, he is seen with Marucho discussing where Dan and Runo were, they would later see Dan battling Wiseman on TV and head to Bakugan Land to back him up. He is then seen with a group of people who wanted to support the Bakugan as they saw Julie being protected by one when Wiseman attacked.

In Gunz Lives he sees Gunz come back and meet Reptak. However Dan acts strange. When Shun and Marucho confront him, Dan says that Wiseman may be Gunz. Wiseman attacks the city which causes Dan, Shun and Marucho to confront him only to reveal it was a trap. Gunz takes Runo out and it was revealed that Gunz is Wiseman who steals the battle suits.

Bakugan

Shun is a Ventus brawler. He approaches Bakugan like a ninja. He lives with his grandfather (who used to be a famous ninja warrior) who once expected Shun to follow in his footsteps instead of playing Bakugan. His first Guardian Bakugan is a Ventus-attribute Skyress whom Shun received from his now-comatose mother in the hospital.

In battle, Shun combines his knowledge of ninja skills and his Bakugan's natural abilities to outwit an opponent and win. In New Vestroia, he battles with Ingram, and wields a Bakugan Trap called Hylash. During the Neathian-Gundalian War, he worked with a Neathian Bakugan called Hawktor. Later on he used another Neathian Bakugan called Taylean. He now uses Jaakor.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers

Shun is a Ventus Brawler. His Guardian Bakugan is Skyress which takes the form of a Green Phoenix. She evolves into Storm Skyress. Unlike most of the Brawlers, he does not have a large collection of Ventus Bakugan and only has four Bakugan shown while most of the other Brawlers have ten and over.

  • Ventus Skyress (First Guardian Bakugan)
    • Ventus Storm Skyress (Evolved First Guardian Bakugan - Evolved in episode 31)
  • Ventus Monarus
  • Ventus Ravenoid
  • Ventus Falconeer
  • Venus Fear Ripper (Video Game only)
  • Ventus Gargonoid (Video Game only)

  • Ventus Siege (Video Game only)

Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia

Shun still uses Ventus Bakugan. He has a New Guardian Bakugan called Ingram and a Bakugan Trap known as Hylash which hooks up with Ingram for High Mobility Mode. He got Ingram from when he was about to be abducted by the Vestals. He was his Temporary Guardian until episode 26, where Skyress decides to make Ingram Shun's Worthy Partner.

Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders

Ventus Hawktor becomes Shun's Guardian Bakugan for Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders. Swayther is his Battle Gear. It is unknown about Master Ingram's whereabouts during these Events in the series, it could be inferred that, like Preyas, he returned to New Vestroia.

  • Ventus Hawktor (Third Guardian Bakugan - First the Digital Clone - And then the real Bakugan, left on Neathia.)
  • Silver Swayther (Battle Gear, left on Neathia.)
  • Pyrus Lumino Dragonoid (Swapped with Dan temporarily in episode 16, returned in episode 17)

Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge

In Mechtanium Surge, Shun is partnered with Ventus Taylean in arc 1, and with Jaakor in arc 2. Taylean is a Neathian Bakugan and Jaakor is from New Vestroia, and both are Shun's Bakugan partners that does not resemble a bird or have wings.

Etymology

Shun's last name, Kazami, means "Wind Watching". Similarly, his first name in Japanese, 駿 (shun), means "Speed". His whole name, transliterated from Japanese, means "Wind Sees Speed".

  • The name Shun means "fast" (駿).
  • Shun's surname Kazami means "weather vane/vane" (風見).
    • It can also mean "wind, breeze, way, manner, blaster, gale, gust, sirocco, method" (風) (kaza) and "see, hopes, chances, idea, opinion, look at, visible" (見) (mi) separately.

Trivia

  • In the original series, Shun is the only brawler to win a battle outnumbered against Marucho Marukura and Runo Misaki. He is also the only brawler to perfectly win a match without losing any Bakugan in the Doom Dimension, when battling Komba in a rematch.
  • Between the original series and New Vestroia, Shun cut his hair and it began to grow out in Mechtanium Surge.
  • Shun is the second oldest out of the 6 by 1–2 years in the English dub.
  • In the Japanese dub, he is 11 in Battle Brawlers, 13 in New Vestroia, 14 in Gundalian Invaders, and 15 and 16 in Arc 1 and 2 of Mechtanium Surge respectively.
  • Some early promotional material for New Vestroia depicts Shun's outfit in different colors.
  • Shun is one of the only two characters who have a former Guardian Bakugan and two new Guardian Bakugan during the events of New Vestroia, the other being Marucho.
  • With the exception of Skyress, all of his Bakugan have some similarities affiliated with being ninja-like and lacking a mouth.
    • Also with the exception of Taylean, Jaakor and Orbeum, most of his other Bakugan have similarities to birds.
  • In the original version, with the exception of his generic Bakugan, all of his abilities are named after ninja techniques.
    • Also, Skyress is his only Guardian Bakugan to not have a Kazami Style ability.
  • Shun Kazami shares his first name and initials as Shun Kurosaki of Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC V. Both of them also have bird related monsters.
  • Shun's Castle Knight uniform bear resemble with Uryū Ishida's Quincy Uniform from BLEACH in anime-only arc, Bount Arc.
  • Shun's Mechtanium Surge arc 1 outfit resembles Cheren's Pokémon Black2 White2 outfit.
  • Shun looks a bit like Dragon Shiryū from Saint Seiya while he also shares the same name of another character of the same anime: Andromeda Shun.
  • Shun is one of a few human beings (and their alike, such as Vestals, Gundalians and Neathians) that can not only combat but actually harm Bakugan on their own power. This is prominently shown in Showdown in Wardington and The Prodigal Bakugan.
  • Shun is inhumanly agile as witnessed many times with him performing many jumps and other acrobatic feats that are impossible for most humans. He also can move at rather high velocities, enough to keep up with and escape motorized vehicles.
  • Shun and Spectra Phantom were the only members of the main Brawlers who beat Dan in battle.
  • Although Shun prefers to be alone, he has remained the Battle Bralwers Ventus Brawler for all five seasons.
  • Shun is the only member of the Bralwers in season 1 to battle Dan more than once in the original series as they battled each other three times.
  • Despite being ranked lower than Anubias and Sellon, Shun has never once lost to them.
  • Shun and Lync have two things in common both are Ventus Brawlers and have been protective of Alice.

Battles

Shun is introduced as a skillful brawler and the former best Bakugan player before falling to Masquerade, and consistently proves his abilities throughout the series. Despite falling to 6th place off-screen, he built his way back up to 3rd by the finale of Bakugan Battle Brawlers. In New Vestroia, he has defeated all the Vexos (expect for Hydron), who are Vestal's strongest brawlers.

In Gundalian Invaders, he is second only to Dan in Bakugan Interspace, and though he falls to fourth place in Mechtanium Surge, it is due to all the time he spent training with Taylean. He later advanced to third, then reclaimed his top spot after defeating Anubias and Marucho, only to fall back to second after losing to Dan. Overall he lost 4 battles in season one, 2 battles in season 2, 4 battles in Season 3, and 8 battles in Season 4.
