It would seem that I underestimated our young friends!
—Zenoheld , Exodus

Zenoheld (ゼノヘルド, Zenoherudo?) was the main antagonist of Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia, although he didn't become personally involved until the second arc. He was the former King of Vestal and the father of the former Prince of Vestal, Hydron. He used a Mechanical Bakugan called Pyrus Farbros, made by Professor Clay. At the end of New Vestroia, he is killed by the Alternative Weapon System's explosion along with his estranged son Hydron and Professor Clay. He is also the overarching antagonist of Bakugan: Defenders of the Core.

Appearance[]

Zenoheld is a tall, fair-skinned Vestal older man with pronounced cheekbones, gray slicked up hair, bushy eyebrows and beard almost reaching his neck. He has gold trimmed black royal uniform along with a red furry collar and gold spiky shoulder pauldrons in which a pale green cape sits on, he also has brown pointed shoes.

When brawling Zenoheld wears red uniform with black gloves, army boots and bits on his shoulders, chest and waist. He wore a modified gauntlet that is similar to Spectra's.

Personality[]

Zenoheld was a deceitful man, lying to his people about the Bakugan to conquer New Vestroia. Out of all the Vexos, (with the exception of Mylene in Mylene's Meltdown) he was the cruelest among them, bent on killing his opponents rather than just merely defeating them. He held high expectations for the Vexos, continually berating his son, Hydron, for his failures but trusting Hydron's subordinates, Mylene Farrow and Shadow Prove. He also faked politeness when he "thanked" the Legendary Soldiers for getting his invitation.

Whenever his plans go awry, he becomes increasingly destructive and violent to the point of extremism: after the Bakugan are freed from subjugation, he tried to destroy them with the Bakugan Termination System; when that failed, he resorted to destroying Vestal and Earth entirely with the Alternative Weapon System. After the destruction of the Bakugan Termination System, he took out his frustration by torturing his son, whom he sees as a source of shame and a disgrace for their family and never acknowledges even once in the story. He holds an even greater hatred toward the Battle Brawlers for destroying the Bakugan Termination System and decided to use the Alternative Weapon System to destroy both Vestal and Earth, the home planets of the Battle Brawlers. When Volt Luster and Lync Volan betray the Vexos because of the Alternative, he sends Hydron to kill them with Death Bombs.

After he overheard that the Bakugan Brawlers were aware of the Alternative Weapon System that Lync Volan copied, he is furious at Hydron again for failing him to dispose of that data. When Hydron asked for a second chance, he gives him no more opportunities and tortured his son again.

His insane personally after the destruction of the BT System, combined with his hatred towards the brawlers led himself be consumed by it, to the point of ignoring Volt's concerns regarding the destruction of innocents with the Alternative Weapon System.

Zenoheld displays a large amount of arrogance which lead him nothing but his own downfall, believing that the Bakugan Battle Brawlers Resistance posed no threat to him after the Vexos had acquired all six Attribute Energies. When Hydron captures him with Dryoid, preventing him from escaping the self-destructing Alternative, he begs Hydron to stop, in spite of all the ways he had treated Hydron in the past.

Despite his fearlessness, he has shown cowardice in his own death when he was captured by Dryoid under the command of his son Hydron and begs him to stop, only for his words to fall on death ears and the fact that Hydron was getting payback for all the times Zenoheld abused him.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia[]

Arc 1[]

In the first arc of Bakugan Battle Brawlers: New Vestroia, Zenoheld had little interaction with the Resistance or the Vexos.

He first appears in a flashback in Facing Ace, where Mira Fermin tells Dan Kuso and Marucho Marukura how the Vexos took over Vestal and made battle arenas in the various city's.

Zenoheld only appears in the first arc in Underground Take Down to berate Hydron for not taking better care of the Dimension Controllers in Alpha City and Beta City. He seems to be impatient with his son due to Hydron's constant failures, planning to check in with him and make sure that he is still on the right track. However, Hydron shrugs his warnings and discipline off, believing he is doing fine without his father's nagging. Zenoheld warns Hydron not to let the Brawlers take down the Gamma City controller. Zenoheld is also mentioned in Final Countdown when the Vexos prepare to retreat, as Hydron worried that blame would be shifted onto him by his father. Mylene however convinces Hydron to pin Spectra as the traitor and tells him how proud Zenoheld will be to learn that Hydron discovered a traitor in the Vexos ranks.

Arc 2[]

Along with the rest of the Vexos (aside from Spectra Phantom and Gus Grav who betrayed them), Zenoheld fled Vestal and resided in his palace in the outskirts of the galaxy, away from civilization, as a result of the news that the Resistance spread about Bakugan being real after freeing New Vestroia causing the people to betray him.

During Six Degrees of Destruction, Clay Fermin reports to him saying that the Bakugan Termination System is now complete while adding that killing Bakugan will be easy. Clay then adds that they need all 6 Bakugan Attribute Energies to power up the device. Zenoheld then orders Clay to began the next phase vowing that the Bakugan wont defy him again. Bent on revenge, Zenoehld and Clay arrive at a Unnamed Planetoid where he sends a message to the 6 Legendary Soldiers to surrender their Attribute Energies to him so that Clay Fermin can power up the Bakugan Termination System. They decline his offer at first, but later decide to battle him. When they arrive, Zenoheld greets them while thanking them for getting his invitation. Apollonir reads his mind and learns of the BT system. Zenoheld does not care when the Solders call him out on making such a device and says that the energy's from them are all he needs and decides to battle all 6 of them. Zenoheld reveals that he owns a Mechanical Bakugan, Pyrus Farbros. After the six Solders pop out Clay warns Zenoheld that the Battle balance program on Farbros is still incomplete while warning him to be careful. Zenoheld does not care and starts using Farbos's power to attack the Solders. Clayf and Frosch counterattack causing Zenoheld to use a double ablity which Lars Lion blocks. Exedra then uses his power to damage Farbros. Apollonir scolds Zenoheld for putting faith in a mechanical beast and states that his arrogance will be his undoing. Zenoheld opens his Gate Card land presure, which paralyses the ancients. Frosch manages to nullify it but is unable to defend himself from Farbros's next attack which injures him and Oberus (who steps in to protect him). However Lars Lion revives the two while Apollonir distracts Farbros. Zenoheld is astonished then impressed by how well the Ancient Warriors are able to do against him but then decides to take his battle strategy up a notch. He combines Farbros with the Assail System to form Assail Farbros. The Warriors are shocked but decide to attack all together. The attacks dont work causing Zenoheld to mock his opponets asking them if that is all they got. The Warriors transfer their power to Apollonir who uses a hyper attack forcing Zenoheld to use the FARBAS system. After a fierce battle, Zenoheld comes out victorious, but the Six Ancient Warriors escape and entrust their Attribute Energies to the Resistance much to Zenoheld's anger.

In Revenge of the Vexos, after hearing the news of the Attribute Energies being dispersed throughout Vestal and Earth, he entrusts Mylene with the duty of picking another Subterra brawler to replace Gus. Her choice of Hydron meets his approval, and he shows Hydron a modicum of pride after Hydron gains the Haos Attribute Energy from Baron Leltoy, telling his son, "I knew I could count on you ... Hydron."

In Saved By the Siren, Zenoheld praises Hydron over his win aganst Baron and tells him that they must strike aganst the Bralwers while they are still weak. Hydron tells Zenoheld that he ordered Mylene to go on Vestail and attack much to Zenoheld's suprise. Hydron also adds that his victory might have broken her pride.

The only important appearance he made within those episodes was in Shadow Attack, where soon after Volt Luster returned from brawling, he receives a transmission from Spectra, who claims that the Vexos, Hydron, and Zenoheld himself were responsible for the mess in the previous arc. In return, Zenoheld tells Shadow Prove to find Dan and the others so that he'll get the Attribute Energies first. But when Shadow tries to leave, he realizes Spectra jammed the transporting system, making it impossible to travel to Vestal and back. This infuriates Zenoheld, knowing that Spectra is up to something. Eventually, though, Shadow Prove goes to Earth and brawls Chan Lee and Alice Gehabich, although neither of them has any Attribute Energies. He wins and proves himself to Zenoheld.

In the Japanese version of Brontes' Betrayal, Zenoheld taunts the Brawlers telling them to come back to Earth while the other Vexos (except Volt who wanted to get Alto Brontes back from Gus) say that the Brawlers are fools for going back and helping their friends.

In the Japanese version of All Or Nothing Zenoheld watches the Vestal Destroyer arrive to Earth and smirks knowing Spectra is arriving. He is also mentioned with Dan telling Gus and Spectra to join him to take Zenoheld and the Vexos down.

In Avenging Spectra He is later shown confronting Spectra and Gus when they infiltrate the Palace demanding they leave the brawlers alone. Gus however reenters and challenges the King to a brawl which he accepts. Zenoheld won with the Farbros-Assail formation, and destroyed Blast Elico, and his Bakugan Trap Hexados. However, Gus and Vulcan survived the final blow and were imprisoned.

In Ambush When the Resistance attack the mother Palace Zenoheld returns from his battle with Gus where the other Vexos are glad he is not hurt. Hydron informs his father that they made plans to stop the Brawlers while he was away. Zenoheld watches their progress and tells The Vexos (minus Hydron) to deal with them. After Master Ingram and Knight Percival lose their attribute energies, Zenoheld looks at the BT system and smirks saying he now needs one more.

In BT: The Final Battle He and Hydron later Brawl Dan Mira and Spectra. However he does not brawl until Hydron beats Mira but loses to Dan and Spectra. Zenoheld beats Spectra and Dan, but Farbros was destroyed and he takes the Pyrus energy from Cross Dragonoid.

In Exodus, he activates the Bakugan Termination System, and Cross Dragonoid and Helios MK2 fail to destroy it. Cross Dragonoid takes the B.T. System into the atmosphere and absorbs all of the Attribute Energies from it, causing him to evolve in Helix Dragonoid in the process, and destroys it, foiling Zenoheld's plans.

In Fusion Confusion, he takes his frustration out on Hydron, demanding to know whose fault it was for the destruction of the Bakugan Termination System before being told the fault was Professor Clay's. After Professor Clay tells him about how he could rule over all dimensions, he has Clay create the Alternative Weapon System to destroy Vestal, the Earth, and the entire universe.

In Volt's Revolt, Zenoheld announces to the Vexos of his plan to destroy Vestal and Earth with the Alternative Weapons System but becomes angry when Volt questions him about the mission. When Volt leaves the Vexos, he becomes even more enraged and tells Hydron to take care of him. He was later pleased when Volt was finally taken care of and warned the other Vexos that they would suffer the same fate should they betray him.

In Payback, Zenoheld asks Professor Clay if he needs help with the Alternative Weapon System. After hearing that Spectra joined the brawlers, and the brawlers have the same data as the Vexos, Zenoheld orders the remaining Vexos to seize the data that the brawlers posses. Later, Mylene reports to him that Lync headed to Earth with a copy of the Alternative data with him. He orders Hydron to take care of Lync. After Hydron disposes of Lync, he returns to Zenoheld expecting to be praised, but Zenoheld roughly dismisses him.

In ‘’Mylene's Meltdown,’’ Zenoheld appeared in Mylene’s flashback along with Hydron. He told Mylene that Lync’s betrayal had cost the Vexos’s precious time, and he needed the Battle Gear Data and the D.N.A code for the Alternative Weapon System. Zenoheld tells Mylene to succeed so that he can fulfill his “Destiny.” Mylene told Zenoheld that she could get the Data that he desired, and she knows where the Brawlers are hiding. Zenoheld tells Mylene to do her mission. Shadow ventures with her into Marucho's House, but the two of them end up disappearing after Mylene gets sucked into her Death Bomb and Shadow jumps in to be with her.

In An Heir To Spare, Zenoheld takes his anger out on Hydron again. In return, Hydron challenges him over control of the throne but is defeated. Zenoheld jails Hydron with Gus Grav, which proves to be a mistake as Gus enrages Hydron to the point that they start a brawl within the cells, allowing both to break free.

In Ultimate Weapon, When the Alternative is nearly complete he battles Spectra, who rammed into his palace. He is at a disadvantage for most of the battle, only overpowering Spectra and Helios with his Assail Farbros. Gus intervenes, and Spectra and Gus hold out against Zenoheld together but are eventually overwhelmed when Farbros combines with the Alternative Weapons System.

In All for One and Final Fury, he uses the Alternative Weapon System against the Resistance. Hydron intervened and had Dryoid use his saber to stab Farbros in the back, causing its power to go out and rendering it unusable. Hydron then used Dryoid to trap Zenoheld until the Alternative exploded, killing all three.

Bakugan: Gundalian Invaders[]

Dan mentioned him in the introductions to A New Beginning to The Sacred Orb saying how Bakugan Interspace finally went global following his defeat.

Bakugan: Mechtanium Surge[]

He was mentioned by Dan again in Evil Arrival while he was reintroducing Mira telling the viewers how she helped the Brawlers stop Clay and Zenoheld.

Bakugan: Defenders of the Core[]

He appeared in the video game along with the other Vexos members. He never interacts with the character, and is only seen in various cutscenes and sometimes on posters placed throughout the cities.

His only notable appearance was in a conversation with Spectra, in which he told him to speed up their efforts to reach the Earth's core. After he let Spectra go, he doesn't hear Spectra comment that he would instead take the core's power for himself rather than harness it for Zenoheld.

Trivia[]

  • Zenoheld's name is possibly a mis-transliteration of Xenoheld. Xeno- derived from the Greek ξένος (alien, foreign) and -held, with connotation of ownership, Zenoheld's name therefore means "ruler of the cosmos/foreign lands".
  • In the Japanese version, he has a designation of IV (4世). He does not have as such in the English dub.
    • His designation likely stems from the superstition of number 4 in East Asian cultures, as the number is pronounced similarly to the word for "death".
  • Until his final battle and death, Zenoheld was the only Vexos member that had not lost a brawl.
    • In every one of his brawls, a Subterra Bakugan was involved in it.
  • Unlike the other brawlers in New Vestroia, Zenoheld uses his Gauntlet to throw Farbros and Gate Cards. His Gauntlet is also slightly different from those of the other Vexos members.
  • Zenoheld and his son are the only Vexos members with no known surname. This is likely due to their status as royalty.
  • Zenoheld is one of the few adult brawlers in the series, along with Hal-G, Klaus von Hertzon (as of New Vestroia), Spectra Phantom, Gus Grav, Volt Luster, Lena Isis, Mylene Farrow, Sid Arkale, Captain Elright, Jin, and the Twelve Orders.
  • Zenoheld was the only main antagonist who did not appear in the first episode of his respective season.
  • Zenoheld can be seen as an antithesis to Serena Sheen and has the types of differences that Hydron has to Fabia Sheen. Zenoheld is the cruel, tyrannical king of Vestal, Serena is the benevolent and peace-seeking queen of Neathia. He is most likely much older than Serena. He brawls, while Serena doesn't.
  • Zenoheld is similar to Barodius in that they are both cruel, tyrannical monarchs, who usually care little for subjects. Unlike Zenoheld, however, Barodius doesn't have to use cheap tactics or outright cheat to win, as well as the fact that he is more fearless than the former was at the end of his season.
  • Of all the main antagonist brawlers (Hal-G, Barodius/Mag Mel, and Wiseman), he is the only one who didn't have any extraordinary power such as shooting energy from his hands or flight; instead, he uses Vestal technology and mechanical weapons.
  • Zenoheld is the only main antagonist not to be defeated/killed by Dan and Drago but by Hydron and Dryoid.
  • Had Zenoheld not abused Hydron, Hydron may not have betrayed him. Because of this Zenoheld brought his death onto himself.
  • Similarly to Nurzak a lot of his opponents insult him by calling him an old man.
  • Zenoheld and Clay are the only Vexos that have never been to Earth.
  • In the Japanese version Zenoheld replaced Spectra in the end of the song once the second arc began to show that he is now the new leader of the Vexos.
  • Zenoheld is the only main antagonist brawler who does not fight with the Darkus Attribute.
  • In the Japanese version Masquerade's theme plays during some of his battles. Examples being his battle with the Legendary Solders and the battle with the Brawler's against the Alternative.
  • With the expectation of the six soldiers all his battles had him fight a former member of the Vexos.
  • Spectra and Zenoheld have a few things in common, they were both Pyrus Brawlers who were the leader of the Vexos at some point during New Vestroia. Both their Bakugan are Dragon like, Both their Bakugan have the FARBAS system, both of them got lectured by Apollonir, and Both of them were shown in the endings to the Japanese them songs.
